About Me
My interest in photography grew out of my love for scuba diving, and my desire to reveal the beauty of the underwater world to those who had not seen it. So began a new adventure in my life.
This growing passion for underwater photography led me to the pursuit of capturing the wonders of nature, the creatures that inhabit our natural world and the landscapes in which they live.
My goal is to create images that enhance the viewer's appreciation of nature, whether the images are of underwater creatures, the animals that roam wild in our great land, or the beauty of the landscape itself. I intend that my images tell a story through the use of light, composition, color, and - at times - the creative use of these features in the abstract to look at nature in new ways. It is important to me to never have strong expectations that photographing a subject should turn out a certain way in order to be a success. I expect the unexpected and take delight in creating a spectacular image in a mundane location or of an ordinary subject.
I am always striving to perfect my art. I have had several of my photos published in trade magazines, and in 2007, one of my creative images, "Strawberry Quench" was published in National Geographic's online magazine and subsequently used to market their website. In 2008, my collage of daisies photograph was picked for the cover of the South Hampton Garden Club's annual garden book, "On the Road Again: Seeing Texas Through Flowers." My images of sports cars have graced the cover of the Lone Star Region Porsche Club magazine, “PorscheNaut” numerous times. In December, 2010, the National Association of Photoshop Professionals selected my photography portfolio as Editor's Choice, and I finished the year by being awarded 2010 Photographer of the Year by the Houston Underwater Photographic Society, Houston, Texas. In 2010 and 2011, my underwater images are on display and for sale in the gift shop at the Moody Gardens, Galveston, Texas. My image of a sea star and of a hawksbill turtle are the top sellers at the gift shop.
I have trained with National Geographic Professional Photographer, Mark Thiesson, internationally known nature photographers, Laurie Excell and Moose Peterson, Texas professional nature photographer, Larry Ditto, who is a frequent contributor to Texas Highways and Texas Parks & Wildlife magazines, and Houston professional photographer Kathy Adams Clark.
I am a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, the Nikonians Institute, the Houston Underwater Photographic Society, and the Houston Inner Loop Photo Club.
